Thailand COVID-19 Cases January 18, 2022 Update

Thailand Ministry of Health reports 6,397 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 18 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 6,637recovered patients.

Department of Medical Sciences chief Dr. Supakit Sirilak that the combined jabs of inactivated vaccine and mRNA-based vaccine boosters prove to be effective against Delta and Omicron variants. Samples show a significant improvement in the immune system after receiving an mRNA booster.

“The study shows we do need to get a booster vaccine for fighting against the Omicron variant,” he said. “I would like to recommend all people, especially those considered at high risk from the disease, to get the booster vaccine as soon as possible.”

The study shows that a combination of either a full dose of Sinovac or full dose AstraZeneca combined with a Pfizer booster shows the immunity increased by the hundreds. While a two-dose AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Sinovac combined with AstraZeneca are showing below a hundred.

The department is now going to study the length of valid immunity from the vaccine doses.
