INDIA COVID Cases Update as of January 12, 2022

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported an increase in COVID cases since yesterday. As of January 12, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 178,042 new cases reported across India.

Maharashtra has reported 34,424 cases followed by Delhi registering 21,259 cases, and West Bengal stands at 21,098 cases at this time. This is the sixth day that the cases crossed the 100,000 mark in a while.

To avoid overwhelming the healthcare system, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued revised guidelines for home isolation. To be eligible for home isolation, the following criteria must be met.

  1. The patient must be assigned as mild or asymptomatic by the treating Medical Officer. A control room contact number will be provided for testing, clinical guidance, and hospital bed assignment if needed.
  2. The home must have a room for self-isolation and for quarantining family contacts.
  3. A caregiver must be assigned. A caregiver must be someone who completed their COVID-19 vaccination schedule. The caregiver must also be able to provide 24×7 care. For the entire duration of the home isolation, a contact will be established between the caregiver and the medical officer.
  4. Patients more than 60 years of age and those who are co-morbid status must be proper evaluated before allowed for home isolation. (Co-morbid Status: those suffering from Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart disease, Chronic lung/liver/ kidney disease, Cerebrovascular disease etc)
  5. Patients who are immune-compromised are NOT allowed to self isolate. (Immune-compromised: those suffering from HIV, Transplant recipients, Cancer therapy etc.)
