INDIA COVID Cases Update as of January 11, 2022

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported an increase in COVID cases since yesterday. As of January 8, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 156,411 new cases reported across India.

Maharashtra has reported 33,470 cases followed by West Bengal registering 19,286 cases, and Delhi stands at 19,166 cases at this time. This is the fifth day that the cases crossed the 100,000 mark in a while.

The Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in Delhi has suspended dine-in facilities and bars in light of the increase in cases. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is also considering imposing lockdown measures if the cases continue to rise. Tamil Nandu local government has also extended the lockdown until January 31.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope predicts that the cases will peak by end of January if the measures are strictly followed. In Rajasthan, the local government capped the prices of rapid antigen test kits at Rs 50. This is to keep the prices in check as the demand for the test kits increased.
