  • After eating food, the first thing that should be done is to walk at a moderate pace. Avoid brisk walking or jogging as it can cause stomach pain and flatulence. To start, walk for 5-6 at a light pace. After a few days you can increase the time by 10 minutes at a moderate pace.
  • If you don’t like to walk outside, you can just walk indoors. Walking after meal speeds up the digestion process, which can prevent problems like bloating and overeating.
  • A short distance can help in correcting the blood glucose or blood sugar level as there is an increase in the blood sugar level after a meal. Especially diabetic patients are advised to walk for 10 minutes.
  • You may have stomach problems such as acid reflux and gas when lying down or sitting so it would be better walking after a meal.
  • Walking exercise is a potential way to improve mental health. This is because it lowers stress hormones including cortisol, adrenaline.
  • When a person goes for a walk, the body releases endorphins which act as natural pain killers.
  • To sleep peacefully at night, go for a walk after dinner. Sometimes you sleep with stress. The troubles of work or personal life do not let you sleep peacefully. Walking after dinner benefits you by reducing stress levels, Blood circulation is promoted. Both of these are important for a good night’s sleep.

Walking after a meal reduces restlessness, elevates mood, reduces stress and creates a feeling of relaxation. Generally, walking for 10 minutes is enough for your body. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, it takes 30 minutes daily for 10-15 minutes. You can also increase the time by 5 minutes according to your need, but avoid going out of it.
