Tokyo Olympics: Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver Medal

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has created history in the Tokyo Olympics. Mirabai Chanu has won silver medal in weightlifting. Mirabai Chanu performed extremely well and lifted 87 kg in the snatch. In clean and jerk, Mirabai Chanu successfully lifted the weight of 115 kg and she managed to win the medal for India.

Chanu has given India the second medal in the history of Olympic Games in weightlifting. She is the first female player from India to win a silver medal in weightlifting. At the same time, she is the second female weightlifter to win a medal in the Olympics. Before Chanu, Karnam Malleswari won a medal in weightlifting. Malleswari won a bronze medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. After Malleshwari, Chanu has won the second position in the Olympics in weightlifting, that is, after 21 years, India won a medal in weightlifting.

On this occasion, Union Law Minister and former Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju had a special conversation with ABP News. Kiren Rijiju congratulated Mirabai and said that she fulfilled the promise she had made.

Kiren Rijiju said, ‘Mirabai Chanu has created enthusiasm across the country by winning the silver medal in the Olympics on the very first day. It is a matter of great pride for the whole country. I want to congratulate them. Mirabai Chanu is a very hardworking girl. He had promised to win a medal and fulfilled it.

India has won a total of 28 medals in the Olympics from 1900 to 2016. Now after winning the medal of Chanu Ki, this number has increased to 29. These include nine gold, eight silver and 12 bronze medals. India has won the most medals in hockey so far in Olympic history. India has won 11 medals in hockey, which is the most. In hockey, India has won eight gold, one silver and one bronze medals. While in shooting he has won four medals. Apart from this, India has won five medals in wrestling, two medals each in badminton, weightlifting and boxing and has also won medals in tennis.
