Public Talk on Shri Guru Nanak Devji: The Disciple of Deeds

At Chulalongkorn University. 9th November 2019

Mr. Navtej Singh Sarna, Writer & Former Ambassador of India to USA addressed the gathering by providing insights into his book on Sikhism Faith, to celebrate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji, the Founder of Sikhism.

Among the Esteemed Guests were:

  • Professor Pirongrong Ramasoota- Vice President of Chulalongkorn University.
  • Dr. Kawaljeet Singh from Shri Guru Singh Sabha. Ms. Kitti Nawani- Vice President of IAT.
  • H.E Suchitra Durai- India’s Ambassador to Thailand.

The Occasion was also marked with the performance of Shabad by Ms. Aruni Bagga & Group from IAT.

About Navtej Singh Sarna

He was born in Jalandhar, India to noted writer in Punjabi, Mohinder Singh Sarna and Punjabi poetess and translator Surjit Sarna, and did his schooling from St. Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun. Later he joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1980.

Navtej Sarna first novel published was We Weren’t Lovers Like That in 2003, followed by The Book of Nanak was published in the same year. ‘The Exile’ published in 2008, is a novel based on the life of Duleep Singh, the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, and son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Ambassador Sarna speaks English, Hindi, Punjabi and has knowledge of Russian and Polish languages also. He is married to Dr. Avina Sarna and has one son and one daughter.

Navtej Singh Sarna had earlier served as Ambassador to Israel and had also served in Washington between 1998 and 2002. Prior to London, Sarna was Secretary (West) MEA where he was in charge of the mega India-Africa Forum Summit in Delhi.

Navtej Singh Sarna is so far the longest-serving MEA spokespersons between 2002 and 2008.
