Kyiv Holds as Ukrainians Fight Back

Kyiv holds as Ukrainians fight back for their capital city. The Ukrainians fought hard to defend their capital as Russian forces try to enter the city. President Volodymyr Zelensky urged citizens to stand up and defend their country.

Early Sunday morning, 30 kilometers southwest of Kyiv was met with two large explosions. The small town of Vasylkiv is the host for a military airbase and a couple of fuel tanks. There was a fire raging at the oil storage area of the Vasylkiv Air Base.

Heavy gunfire in a western district of the Ukrainian capital killed a six-year-old boy and injured several others. Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt hospital reported two teenagers injured along with three adults.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Defence system has performed quite well. It has hugely helped in defending the country. It has caused heavy losses to the Russian army.

United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees about 120,000 Ukrainians have already left. About 850,000 are currently displaced. Queues begin to show at various crossings as about 4 million Ukrainians are expected to flee if things get worse.

The White House, European Commission, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Canada have all stated that they support the expulsion of certain Russian banks from SWIFT, a high-security network that connects thousands of financial institutions around the world, and have pledged to work together to “ensure that this war is a strategic failure for Putin.”

According to Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, Russian state media outlets will no longer be permitted to run ads or otherwise monetize their content on any platform owned by Meta. Similarly, YouTube has barred RT, a Russian state-run news organization, from operating in Ukraine and has halted its ability to monetize its video on the site worldwide.
