The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported an increase in COVID cases since yesterday. As of January 8, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 149,615 new cases reported across India.
Maharashtra has reported 41,343 cases followed by Delhi registering 20,181 cases, and West Bengal stands at 18,802 cases at this time. This is the third day that the cases crossed the 100,000 mark in a while.
Delhi imposed a weekend curfew in hopes of curbing the spike in cases. In addition, the government prohibits physical rallies and roadshows until January 15, 2022. This is to prevent gatherings of large crowds. Karnataka joins the other provinces in imposing lockdowns. Tamil Nandu has imposed a shutdown on Sundays.
