The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported an increase in COVID cases since yesterday. As of January 7, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 112,589 new cases reported across India.
Maharashtra has reported 36,365 cases followed by West Bengal registering 15,421 cases, and Delhi stands at 15,097 cases at this time. This is the first time that the cases crossed the 100,000 mark in a while.
Covid Cases in India continue to rise as the holidays have prompted interstate movement and many fear that this wave could reach a peak in the next few weeks.
Many countries around the world have begun to impose strict lockdown measures. This is to prevent the further spread of the omicron variant. Although the vaccination rates are high, there still seems to be a continuous increase in cases. More studies are on the way to understanding the new variant.
