INDIA COVID Cases Update as of February 20, 2022

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a slight decrease in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 20, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 19,624 new cases reported across India.

Kerala has reported 6,757 at this time. Maharashtra registered 1,635 cases, and Karnataka stands at 1,137 cases at this time. Today’s number is slightly lower than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.

This is the thirteenth day that the cases have fallen below 100,000. Despite the decrease in cases, public precaution is still advised. Social Distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.

Due to the decline in cases, many countries are beginning to relax their COVID-19 measures. The World Health Organization warns that if there is a new variant that appeared, it will be hard to control.

Uttar Pradesh joined the number of states beginning to lift their night curfew. The original curfew was from 10 pm – 6 am and now cut to 11 pm – 5 am. There are still growing concerns about a possible resurgence of cases when the campaign begins.

“Presently, as the case trajectory across the nation is showing a sustained downward trend, it will be useful if states/UTs review and amend/do away with the additional restrictions so imposed after considering the trend of new cases, active cases, and positivity within the state and UT,” Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said.

WHO continues to warn to take it “slow and steady” as they still fear for any new variants developing. Follow us for more India COVID updates.
