The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a decrease in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 1, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 176,416 new cases reported across India.
Kerala has reported 42,154 cases followed by Karnataka registering 24,172 cases, and Tamil Nandu stands at 19,280 cases at this time. Today’s number is slightly lower than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.
This is the second day that the cases have fallen below 200,000. This could mean that the cases have peaked and will continue to decline. Even though the cases seem to recede, public precaution is still advised. Social Distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.
Experts say that the number of cases could still surge in the next 4-6 weeks. This comes as a prediction due to the local transmission status of the virus. This means that the spread is ongoing within the community. Health officials continue to monitor the variant spread as the sequencing. New reports of a mutated sub-lineage of omicron continue to spread worldwide. Among them is BA.2 which is now found in 40 countries. They are also studying the effects of the mutation on the virus’ survivability and symptoms.
