World Famous Pushkar Fair of Rajasthan

Different types of fairs are held in different places in India on different occasions. But the annual fair held in Pushkar, Rajasthan has its own identity. Exciting activities with camel decorations, their games, traditional dances, music, songs by local artists enthrall the tourists during the fair.

Pushkar, located about 15 km from Ajmer in Rajasthan, is world famous for two things. First for the temple of Brahma ji and second for the camel festival. By the way, many fairs are held in our country. But the special thing about Pushkar is that a camel fair is held here. The Camel Fair held at the Pushkar Fair has the title of the largest Camel Fair in the world. Although the fair held in Sonpur, Bihar has the status of the world’s largest cattle fair. The history of Camel Fair, which is held in the vast courtyard of Sand Stand i.e. Fair Ground, is more than 100 years old. People come here to buy horses, donkeys and bullocks apart from good breed camels like Gir, Mevati and Nagori.

Arrangement
The fair begins in the last days of the month of Kartik. This time this fair has started from November 15, which will last for 9 days till November 23, Kartik Purnima. Lakhs of people are coming from all over the country and the world to see this fair. On this day devotees take bath in Pushkar Lake. Lakhs of devotees take a dip in the lake and take the blessings of Lord Brahma and shop at the fair. In this fair, local artists perform traditional dances like Ghoomar, Ger, Maand and Sapera etc. There is also a grand aarti in the evening. You can also enjoy a variety of delicious dishes here.

Glimpses of Rajasthani Culture
The Pushkar Fair, which showcases the culture of Rajasthan, is no longer limited to the sale of animals only. The tourism department of Rajasthan is also promoting the Pushkar fair at the international level. This is the reason that now many types of sports and interesting activities are also being organized here, which attracts a large number of foreign tourists to see. The fair includes programs like Kabaddi, Volleyball, Musical Chair, Matka Race, Camel Dance, Sunset Safari, Balloon Safari, Bride and Groom Contest and Musical Evening. A large number of livestock are bought and sold in the fair. Hence the attraction of the fair doubles for the tourists.

How to reach
Getting to Pushkar is very easy. It can be reached by road, rail and air. It is 15 KM from Ajmer, 145 KM from Jaipur. There are excellent roads from Ajmer to Pushkar. If you want to come by train then there is a direct train to Ajmer. If you want to go by air then there is Jaipur airport. From where you can reach Pushkar by bus or taxi.
