Villages Hit by Deluge in Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, the situation has worsened due to floods in Gwalior-Chambal division. Many rivers including Parvati, Kuna, Sindh are in spate. All the 10 gates have been opened after the Madikheda Dam on the Sindh river is full. Its 8 gates were opened on Monday night itself, due to which many villages in Shivpuri, Gwalior, Bhind and Datia districts were submerged in water in the morning. After SDRF, NDERF, Airforce, now the army has been called to save the people.

The remaining 2 gates were opened on Tuesday afternoon. The Sindh river is flowing by breaking the banks due to heavy water inflow. In the flood, the bridge leading to Ratangarh Mata Temple of Datia and the bridge connecting the launch-pichhore collapsed and washed away. In Sevdha too, the water on the bridge has reached the state of overflow. Nearby villages have been put on high alert due to the opening of the dam gates.

3 lakh cusecs of water has been released from Harsi dam in Gwalior late on Monday night. Due to this, Sindh and Parvati rivers have come in spate in Bhitarwar. The administration has evacuated Khiriya village bordering Shivpuri on Tuesday morning. Along with this, an alert has been issued in 10 to 12 villages here.

1171 villages in Shivpuri, Sheopur, Datia, Bhind and Gwalior have been engulfed in floods. Here the help of the Air Force was being taken for the rescue operation, but bad weather throughout the day hindered the rescue work. Air force helicopters arrived in some areas in the evening and rescued people. The flood waters have filled the Agra-Mumbai National Highway (AB Road NH-3). Due to this the highway has been closed.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, one contingent each has been dispatched to Gwalior, Datia, Shivpuri and Sheopur on Tuesday. These troops have been sent from Jhansi and Babina in UP. Each contingent consists of 80 jawans. Along with this, 2 teams of NDRF are being sent from Lucknow and Banaras. Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested for the help of the army.

2 out of 11 gates of Kundalia of Rajgarh and 4 out of 17 of Mohanpura Dam have been opened. Similarly, 2 out of 5 gates of Gopi Krishna Dam of Guna, 1 out of 6 of Parasdoh Dam of Betul, 3 out of 9 gates of Powai Dam of Panna have been opened. As a precaution, people living on the banks of the dam and river have been alerted.

Two gates of Sanjay Sagar Dam have been opened in Shamshabad of Vidisha district. The gates have been opened due to good rains in the catchment area of the dam. An alert has been issued in low-lying settlements and villages. New gates have been opened for the first time this year. Last year there was no chance to open the gate.

Talking about the big dams of Madhya Pradesh, not a single gate of Bansagar Shahdol, Bargi Jabalpur, Gandhisagar Mandsaur, Indrasagar Khandwa and Tawa Dam Seoni has opened.

Due to less rain in Nimar and Narmdanchal divisions, there has been no flood situation in Narmada so far. This is the reason that the water level in Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar Dam remains normal. At present, there is no possibility of opening the gates of both the dams.

Punasa SDM Chandersinh Solanki told that the water level of Omkareshwar dam is 194.69 meters. Similarly, the water level of Indira Sagar Dam is 249.47 meters. The gate is not likely to open as the water level is normal. There is no water in Indira Sagar Dam from the front. Water comes into Indira Sagar only after releasing water from Bargi dam and Hoshangabad dam. Water from Indira Sagar leads to Omkareshwar Dam.
